It is never too late.
My journey started with a dream. It nearly ended with my life. What came after is why Beyond™ exists.
I am Nick Wallington, founder of Beyond™ and a Private Health Coach in Battersea, Chelsea and Belgravia, London.
I did not arrive at this work through a textbook. I arrived through thirty years of living it: the ambition, the injury, the success, the collapse, and the long, deliberate rebuild that followed.
The early years
At ten years old I watched my first Ironman triathlon on television and decided immediately that I wanted to be a triathlete. By eleven I had entered my first cycling race, and won. By my mid-teens I was the top junior national amateur cycling champion in Bermuda, training toward the Tour de France.
By seventeen I was finishing ten-mile time trials within one minute of the British record. The Olympics felt possible. Professional racing felt closer still.
The injury that changed everything
Years of cycling ten miles each way to school with a heavy backpack had silently herniated two discs in my spine. The damage was misdiagnosed for years. By eighteen I could barely feel my right leg.
At twenty-two I had spinal surgery. One disc had attached itself to the sciatic nerve and grown around it. The surgeon had to stop mid-operation to consult colleagues internationally; none had encountered anything similar. The procedure caused significant nerve damage. I spent three weeks in intensive care and a full year learning to walk again.
I was told I would never play sport again. I did not accept that. But it took me a long time to prove it wrong.
Building a career, and paying the price
In my thirties I built businesses: construction, property development, and eventually short-term rentals. From zero to multi-million pound turnover. On the surface I was succeeding.
Underneath, like many driven people, I was deferring my health, running on empty, and paying the full price of sustained high performance without looking after my body.
In my late thirties, everything collapsed at once: the business, a marriage, and eventually my sense of self. I hit rock bottom. It nearly cost me my life.
The rebuild
What brought me back was movement. Not a programme. Not a coach. Just the simple, ancient truth that the body wants to move, and that when it does, the mind follows.
Kettlebells during the Covid lockdown transformed my body and my mindset more than anything else ever had. I came out of lockdown fitter than I had been since my cycling years, managing chronic daily pain, living with permanent nerve damage in my right leg, and stronger than I had been at thirty.
In my forties I began rebuilding deliberately, intelligently and sustainably. That rebuilding has continued into my fifties. I qualified as a health and fitness coach. People in the gym were already asking how I was so fit. I decided to turn that into something real.
Where I am now
I am 53. I live in London with my wife and our daughter.
I am training for the 2027 HYROX World Championships, Men’s Pro 50 to 54 division, while managing chronic spinal nerve damage, a permanently compromised right leg, and daily pain that has been my companion for over thirty years.
I do not tell you this to impress you. I tell you this because when I say it is never too late, I am not quoting a motivational poster. I am living proof of it. And when I sit across from a client who feels broken, tired or too far gone, I know exactly what that feels like. Not theoretically. Personally.
That is why I coach the way I do. Not from a position of having figured everything out. From the trenches: still fighting the same battles, still rebuilding, still going.
How I coach
I coach movement, nutrition and recovery as a single integrated system, not three separate disciplines bolted together. I work with a small number of clients at a time, because your results depend on my full attention.
Six months at a time, because real change takes longer than a few weeks. No generic templates. No quick fixes. No trading time for attendance. A partnership, built on trust, honesty and a shared commitment to the outcome.
